711 West 22%. Below: Decorated with balloons and streamers, the Phi Kappa Sigma recreation room vibrated with the sounds of the band and dancing feet. The most important activity of the year for Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity was the dedication of its new house on Oct. 15, 1966, in conjunction with the fraternity ' s national Founders ' Day celebration. The approximately 85 people attending the function heard the national president of Phi Kappa Sigma give the keynote address. Campus activities brought the fraternity two awards: first place in the men ' s division of the Aggie Sign Contest for their Orange Baron entry, and a third-place award in the mixed division of Sing-Song for their presentation with Delta Zeta sorority. Founded nationally in 1850 at the University of Penn- sylvania, the local Sigma chapter was given its charter Feb. 15, 1941. Local officers included Charles Joseph Zubarik, alpha; John H. OKT Active in many phases of campus life, Phi Kappa Tau won first place in the fraternity division at Sing-Song with its medley of fraternity songs. The Executioner, spon- sored by Phi Taus. terrorized campus in the Dimes Day Monster Man Contest. The spontaneously organized mariachi band, The Marijuana Brass, played on campus during elections and at the chapter house for match parties. Parties varied from the sublime to the ridiculous, built around themes of the Jolly Green Giant, A Grave Affair, and a railroad party. Phi Kappa Tau intramural teams brought the fraternity high in cumulative points with victories in football, baseball and tennis. The chapter also won the divisional title in basketball and placed Dick Ewing in A tennis semi- finals and Jim Damron in B tennis finals. Brothers and pledges of Phi Kappa Tau were active in many honoraries: five members were admitted to Phi Eta Sigma and four to Alpha Epsilon Delta and Phi Lambda Upsilon. Phi Taus also participated in the Longhorn Band and Kappa Kappa Psi. Founded locally in 1943, the Beta Alpha chapter was led in the fall by Joseph Sidney Fletcher, president; George Wheeler Richards, vice-president; Charles Edwin Blank, secretary; Lawrence Sullivan Ross V, treasurer; and Terry Lee Belt, ECMAL. The spring executive committee was directed by Raymond John Martin, president; Richard Edward Ewing, vice-president; David Traeger Griffin, sec- retary: John Cavett McDuff, treasurer; and Charles Edwin Blank, ECMAL. The fraternity sweetheart was Jane Gil- breath, a member of the newly organized auxiliary. Mrs. Ruth Halligan was housemother. Top: 2804 Rio Grande.
