ARNO NOWOTNY Dean of Student Life Dean Shorty ' s ' watchword ' is to keep in sympa- thetic touch with the students, personally. And he does. A former UT cheerleader, the popular Dean is also national president of Alpha Phi Omega. CHARLES HERMAN SPARENBERG Auditor As Auditor, Mr. Sparenberg has charge of most of the financial relations of the University and its branches. A Texas ex, the Auditor was in- tramurals wrestling champion for two years while in college. DOROTHY LOUISE GEBAUER Dean of Women With the grace, charm and tact that makes her a favorite with University girls, Miss Gebauer has been Dean of Women since 1937. When not busy with official duties, she ' s the outdoor type enjoys horseback riding, mountain climb- ing and camping. : JACK HOLLAND Dean of Men Dean Jack is famous for his own brand of coun- seling. He calls it bull sessions with the boys. Much of his time is devoted to sponsoring Var- sity Carnival, the Interfratcrnity Council, and the men ' s service organizations and social fraternities. CHARLES T. CLARK Director, Office of Non-academic Personnel During his undergraduate days, Mr. Clark was president of Alpha Phi Omega and a member of Friars. Before becoming Director of Non- academic Personnel, he was Assistant Dean of Men and Director of the Employment Bureau. V..K I ' l

ADMINISTRATION JAMES C. DOLLEY Vice-President and Acting President, Main University An administrator with a flair for sports, Vice-President Dolley is well-known in academic and business circles throughout the nation. During his college days he served as captain of his basketball team. His name appears in Who ' s Who in America, Who ' s Who in Commerce and Industry, Who ' s Who in Education, and The Directory of American scholars. HENRY Y. McCOWN Registrar and Dean of Admissions A retired Naval officer. Captain McCown has been at the University for ten years. Until 1949, he was NROTC commandant. He assumed his present duties in September of that year. The Registrar is an Admiral in the Texas Navy and holds the Navy Cross and the Legion of Merit. C. READ CRANBERRY Assistant to the Chancellor A former professor of electrical engineering and an illumi- natioT expert. Mr. Cranberry ' s interests are varied. When he ' s not engaged in University business, he might be found collecting Indian artifacts, water-coloring landscapes, or dabbling in color photography. The assistant chancellor has served as unofficial parliamentarian for the state House of Representatives for 15 sessions. CARROLL D. SIMMONS Vice-Chancellor for Business and Finance During his twenty-eight years on the campus, the Vice- Chancellor has served the University in many capacities. He has been a professor of business administration, sta- tistical assistant to the registrar, secretary to the Board of Regents, investment statistician and investment officer, vice-president and comptroller. WILLIAM D. BLUNK Assistant Dean of Student Life Dean Blunk is active as Secretary of the Dads ' Association and editor of the organization ' s magazine, Dad ' s Digest. The official censor for campus shows, the assistant dean is chairman of the Rally Committee and the Orientation Committee and is in charge of summer enter- tainment. JESSE EARL ANDERSON Assistant to the Dean of Women Miss Anderson leads a busy life working with students in Cap and Gown, Co-Ed Assembly, WICA, and the Orientation Council. In addi- tion, she is house chairman of women ' s resi- dences. The dean enjoys horseback-riding in her spare time. MARGARET PECK Assistant Dean of Women When Miss Peck isn ' t in the Dean ' s office, you might find her fishing on Lake Austin. That, however, would be rare, for she is usually busy working with Panhellenic, the State Board of Mental Hygiene, or students who just want to chat. HELEN M. FLINN Assistant to the Dean of Women After working with University-owned women ' s dormitories since 1936, Miss Flinn moved to the Dean of Women ' s office and is now working with students in a different phase of their col- lege lives. She is chairman of the social calendar committee and is always on hand to advise organizations and individuals on social activities. CARL V. BREDT Associate Dean of Student Life A man of varied interests, Mr. Bredt was a Southwest Conference football official for five years, and was at one time sponsor of the Men ' s Glee Club. In addition, the genial associate dean enjoys playing at golf and training bird dogs. PAGE 16
