VOYLES, Austin Associate Justice James P. Hart of the Supreme Court of Texas became the first Chancellor of the University November 15, 1950. As Chancellor he is the top administrative officer for the University and all its branches. Justice Hart has served on the Supreme Court since 1947. He is an honor graduate of the University, an honor graduate of Harvard Uni- versity Law School. He has engaged in private practice of law, is a former Travis County district attorney, former special district judge and former Texas assistant attorney general. His appointment has returned him officially to a campus where as an undergraduate he majored in history, government and economics, won election to Phi Beta Kappa, was graduated with the highest grades in the Class of 1925, engaged in debate, and plaved on the varsity football squad.
