SMITH The function of the Students ' Association is to provide a medium of expression for the opinions of the student body. The legislative branch, the Students ' Assembly, investigates university problems of significance to the students, and recommends action to University officials on the basis of its findings. Students ' Association officials are charged with the responsibility of representing the students on numerous student-faculty boards and committees such as the Board of Student Publications, the Texas Union Board of Directors, the Social Calendar Committee, the Board of Directors of the University Co-op, and many others. The Assembly has the difficult task of fixing the amount of the voluntary Blanket Tax and apportioning it among the various student activities which derive revenue from the students by this means. The total blanket tax sales for the year 1946-47 amounted to over $150.000. This year ' s goal in student government was to perfect a practical training ground in the democratic processes, utilizing the facilities of the Students ' Association. ANNE BURKETT HOWARD D.
