He has been in charge of the National Program for the Improve- ment of Secondary Education in the State since 1938. He is active on student committees. DEWITT CARTER REDDICK. Ph.D.. BJ.. Professor of Journalism. Author of a widely used high school journalism textbook, and Director of I.L.P.C.. he is one of the most popular professors on the campus and takes part in many student activities. GEORGE WARD STOCKING. Ph.D. (left). Professor of Economics. He has been a member of the National Arbitration Boards. He has devised a new method of teaching German which is widely used and is especially helpful to graduate students. JOHN HUTCHINSON FREDERICK, Ph.D., Professor of Transportation and Industry. An authority on post-war transportation schedules and air transportation, he has published a number of books on this subject. He is the first University of Texas professor to be president of the Austin Chamber of Commerce. MILDRED GERTRUDE SPICER, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Home Economics. She teaches Nutrition and Home Economics Education, and although she has been here only since 1942, she has already made a definite place for herself on the campus. COL. GEORGE E. HURT, L.R.A.M., A.B.A. (left). Director of Univer- sity Bands since 1937. Instructor, C.A.A. pilot training, and active in many student activities. HERSCHEL THURMAN MANUEL, Ph.D., Professor of Educational Psychology. He gives the psychological examinations to freshman students and is in charge of the Army-Navy Testing for this region. He is making a study of the teaching of languages for the American Council on Education.

He has been a member of the faculty of the University since 1940. MARIE BETZNER MORROW, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Botany ami Bacteriology. She is conducting a research on molds and allergies. Besides sponsoring the Present Day Club, she is active in many student affairs. She has been on the staff since 1927. MARJORIE ANNETTA NEWTON, B.S., Instructor in Physical Training for Women. She teaches tennis, golf and swimming. She came to the University in 1943 and is from Atlanta, Georgia. HARRY JOSHUA LEON, Ph.D. (left), Professor and Chairman of the Department of Classical Languages. An excellent teacher and an eminent scholar, he has been on the University staff since 1923. ERICH WALTER ZIMMERMAN, Ph.D., Professor of Resources, School of Business Administration. He is a distinguished professor of Business Administration and an outstanding authority on world resources and industry.
