IO Baseball The 1959 Vol baseball team pulled in a disappointing 14-11 record. Injuries to key players caused a late season downfall and kept the team from repeating their 1968 VSAC championship performance. The Orange raced to a 13-2 slate before ace pitchers Eddie Eckert fel-lj and Mac Terry C4-2D were felled by arm injuries. Shortstop Steve Steele ranked eighth nationally in hitting, with a .463 mace mark. Randy Horn, jim Wiggins, and Johnny Walker were other Vols who batted above the magic .300 mark.

Tennis The tennis team finished the 1969 season with a 12-1 record and captured the Western Division Championship of the VSAC. The Netmen later copped fourth-place in the conference tournament. Dennis Taylor, Jim Kueler, Pat Madden, Bill Andrews, Daryl Gardner, and Glen Weaks filled the starting slots for the team. Weaks, Kueler, and Taylor return for the '70 season. UTM's girls' team, in their second year of competition, compiled an 0-7 record. Chris Robinson and Lin Dunn were ranked second in the state in singles and doubles respectively. IIO
