Once again the University of Tampa Spartans felt the thrill of victory as they lapped the field, holding the Mayors Cup Trophy high above their heads with pride. Strong defense and structured offense lead the Spartans to a 2-0 defeat of the University of South Florida Bulls, in this fourth annual Mayor s Cup game. A crowd of S, 707 people, the largest ever seen in the Greater Tampa area for collegiate soccer, gathered to witness the game between one of America s hottest rivalries. This second consecutive Mayor's Cup victory for the Spartans occured on home turf in the newly renovated Pepin Rood Stadium. A dedication ceremony preceededgame action to recognize and honor the support of Art D. Pepin of Pepin Distributors and attorney Ed B. Rood. The ultimate goal of the renovation of the stadium is to bring together the community of Tampa and its University. 14 MAYOR'S CUP
