GRADUATE STUDENTS Graduate students are either military jocks, foreign students, nurds, dirty old men, little old ladies in tennis shoes, or public school teachers. The military jocks and school teachers make the best grades because the highly-struc- tured lifestyles to which they have become accustomed have groomed them for researching and categorizing countless reams of trivia — which is what graduate school is all about. The most expedient way to attack graduate school is fulltime without a lot of other encumbrances — like working for a liv- ing. Of course, if you’re not lucky enough to have an indulgent husband or wife who doesn’t mind supporting your professional student habit, you'll just have to do it the hard way — if you really think it’s worth it. Oh, well, how old would you be in 40 years if you didn’t do it? GRADUATION Despite the expectations built up during a student's years at U of T, graduation seems an anti-climax, somehow. You walk on stage, grab the paper, shake hands with some dude, and walk off. That’s it, folks. But as long as there are professors who enjoy parading their academic regalia and Miss American Pies who go limp when they hear Pomp and Circumstance, the exercise will remain.
