Defense was the word in the first quarter as both teams failed to tally. In the second period Tampa capped a 70 yard drive with a 17 yard Carter to Edlin scoring toss to take a 7-0 lead. After a 37 yard Soper field goal the score was 10-0 at the half. In the third quarter a halfback pass of 29 yards from Willie Miller to Mark Wakefield made the score 17-0 Tampa. The defense then went to work. Joey Clark picked off an errant Mocassin pass and galloped 30 yards for the score, 24-0. Another score later by the fabulous subs, and two by Chattanooga made the final score 31-14 and Tampa's first win of the season. 113 SPORTS ? I spartans freeze penguins 49-0 The Tampa Spartans unloaded against a hopeless Youngstown State Penguin team Saturday af- ternoon to the tune of 49-0. Youngstown totaled only 81 yards in offense. Buddy Carter carried it in for the 2- point conversion and Tampa led 14-0. Drake got on the scoreboard with 10:37 in the half but not against the Spartan defense. Fletcher Carr snapped the ball over punter Joey Clark's head and the ball sailed out of the end zone. That was Drake's first and last score of the day. Tampa's last score of the half was a sensational 80 yard burst by Solomon as he outran the entire Drake defense into the end zone. The meetings are generally informal discussions. Some of the areas which have been covered are Zen Bud- dhism, Existential philosophy which includes Dostoevsky, Sartre, and Camus; and the philoso- phy of Religion. Recently, Robert Wolff's In De- fense of Anarchism was the central theme of the discussions. The club has also enjoyed the hospitality of it's advisor, Mr. Saatkamp, by spending a weekend at his cottage at Half Moon Lake near Gainesville, which was enjoyed by all. In the future the club plans to have similar outings, paper presentations by individual mem- bers of the club and perhaps guest speakers from other schools. 175 CROUPS alpha chi The Alpha Chi National Honor Scholarship Society is cur- rently in its fourth academic year at the University of Tampa. It was in 1960 that both students and faculty real- ized the need of a scholastic fraternity to recognize out- standing students and to stimulate growth toward attaining a higher academic standard for the University. Members of the society have been selected on the basis of excellence in both academic performance and character. Membership is attained by placing in the top ten per cent of the grade point averages in the junior and senior classes with a total of not less than twenty-four semester hours at the University of Tampa. The final selection of members is decided upon by the faculty and current Alpha Chi mem- bers. The society is dedicated to the stimulation of a spirit of sound scholarship and devotion to the truth, it is opposed to bigotry and narrowness and to discrimination on any basis save that of genuine worth. Members of the society consist of students with an overall scholastic average of B and at least twelve credits in economics with an average of B or better. They are not required to be an economics major; however, they must have a genuine interest in economics. Omicron Delta is pri- marily dedicated to the encouragement of excellence in economics. The objectives of ODE are fivefold: the recogni- tion of scholastic attainment in economics; the rec- ognition of outstanding achievements in economics on the part of economists at all levels; the establish- ment of closer ties between students and faculty in economics within their own colleges and universi- ties; the establishment of closer ties between stu- dents and faculty in economics on all campuses; the publication of an official journal. 177 CROUPS phi alpha theta Phi Alpha Theta is the national honor society for history majors who maintain a high average in all academic subjects. The aims of the society are to promote an interest in history through discussion, scholarship awards, national, regional and local conventions; and to facilitate the publication of the works of members who have some worthwhile contribution to make to historical literature. GROUPS psi chi Psi-Chi is the national honor society in psy- chology. It is the only organization of its kind that is recognized by and affiliated with the American Psychological Association. Psi-Chi serves two major goals: one immediate and visibly rewarding to the individual member; the other slower and more difficult of an accom- plishment, but offering greater rewards in the long run. The first of these is the society's obliga- tion to provide academic prestige to its initiates by the mere fact of membership. Eligibility stan- dards are maintained at such a level that a Psi- Chi membership card is a badge of merit attest- ing to the member's ability. The second is the obligation of our chapter to nurture the spark of that ability by offering a climate congenial to its development. Programs designed to augment and enhance the regular curriculum are carried out. Lectures and panel discussions are sched- uled, as are field trips to relevant institutions. loft to Right, Front Row: Mark Smith, William Esposito, Jim Wigglcsworth, George Galvin, Dave Smith. The fraternity expanded and prospered and on April 1,1964 acquired a frat house at 203 Verne Street. The house has gone through many major changes including paneling, air- conditioning, pool table, juke box, pin ball machine, color T.V., and our all important beer machine. TEP parties have taken a new twist with the use of a 65 foot yacht, these are our floating parties. How about this for a party: take twentv Couples, an air-conditioned bus equipped with a bar and you have TEP's transportation to and from football games. An- other first for us was our beer marathon. Five days in a row the TEP House was open to any and all comers. And come they did con- suming over 4000 cans of beer and five kegs. The biggest fraternity event of the year TEP's formal weekend was a spectacular event. We drove to Orlando and invaded Disney World. The weekend was highlighted with the formal dance and the crowning of our TEP Sweetheart. Looking back at a successful year, we are looking forward to an even better 1972-73. 212 Vito 8arbieri Sian Borawski Lee Borowsky Bob Carroll Dave Chaimowitz Jim Collins Robert Collins Andy Daulquist George Dayson Jim Folkcmer Robert Ford Pete Getzlcr Paul Green Thomas Harrigan Dennis Hill loe Hordosi Jeff lozowski Fred Metzger Don Schmidt Jim Sommcrkamp Alan Spech Gene Steinberg Tim Walker Geoff Watcrcr Steven Weiehsclbaum GREEKS Although Zeta Beta Tau is small in number, we are big in spirit and activities on the Tampa Uni- versity campus. 1971-72 was a great year for ZBT with Michael Palais as President; Jules Nagy, Vice-President; Paul Hauser Secretary; Bill Alvis, Treasurer; Sam- uel Greenblalt, Historian; and loran Mann, Chaplain. The brothers worked hard with the homecom- ing display and had help from Little Sisters Mi- chelle Lepore, and Helene Krakower. The acknowledgement of the hard working brothers of ZBT came in mid-February when the Colony became a chartered chapter of Zeta Beta Tau. | One of the many highlightsjfof the year was a visit from the New Jersey Alumni Chairman, Ray- mond Wiede and his aide Red Sarafan. Throughout the year, the brotherhood im- proved community relations. Our Voter Registra- tion and participation in the March of Dimes Carnival complimented the year. The brothers also helped curb the environmental crisis by using homecoming functionally, although the rabbit could not run for Queen. 216 t I tc mm GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATIONS PROGRAM On the dates below Graduate Record Examinations will be administered at many centers in the United States and abroad to candidates for admission to raduate and professional schools and to candidates or certain fellowships awards: OCTOBER 23, 1971 DECEMBER 11, 1971 ANUARY 15, 1972 ♦FEBRUARY 26, 1972 APRIL 22, 1972 JUNE 17, 1972 •Testing on February 26, 1972, is limited to center in the 50 United States.
