Our organization was founded on May 1, 1964. Our first officers were, Bar- ry Miller, President; Janet Rogers, Vice-President; Luzette Sarcone, Sec- retary; and John Whitbeck, Treasurer. Ulema had six of it‘s members named to Who’s Who; Barry Miller, Janet Rogers, Overton Ganong, Judy Orovic, Tyrone McMurray and Kevin Hughes. As part of our services to the school we ran a tutoring service for those students who were deficient in certain areas of their academic endeavors. A highlight of the year for us, was a dinner-meeting given at the home of our advisor Dr. Charles West. With the help of our productive members and our faculty advisor. Dr. West, we have moved from a position if invisability at the University of Tam- pa to a position of prominence and honor. 60 Psi Chi Bim- Miller, Harriet Apter, Jerry Kuuman, L Spoiuo. The Psy- chology Club within one year, the minimum amount of time, met the requirements of the na- tional Psi Chi organization, and was accepted into its membership. Our acceptance in the minimum time requirement indicated the high standards main- tained by the petitioning members and the entire Psychology Department. The Charter members were initiated February 23, 1963. We are composed of two types of members, ac- tives and associates. The associates are primarily students who have not had sufficcnt time to meet the course requirements or the rigid academic standards necessary for active membership. However, the Sig Ep Formal Weekend with the Sweetheart Ball and the crowning of the Queen was the highlight of the entire year. Neil Kowsry Ed Thcahold 95 Everett Vital! Robert Adimead Chari FWnr Lenny Berkowitz Ri wl Bowman Steven Bronrtdn Richard Burkhanl Tau Epsilon Phi Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Tau Epsilon Phi had a very suc- cessful 19 4-1965 school year. Among the various social activities, there were a special few that will always be remembered by the brothers. There was the Homecoming lawn display, Support the Spartans.” Not only were odds given that it could never be allowed in front of the school, but many wondered where did this fraternity get the nerve to go ahead with the idea. Nevertheless, the making of this lawn display brought out one of the true prin- ciples of fraternalism — to do voluntarily that which must lx: done!” Tau Epsilon Phi served unselfishly the community of Tampa. Our orphan's party tried to restore the true meaning of Christ- mas into unfortunate children by having Santa Claus” (Brother Grodin) give them presents, candy and ice cream and entertain them with jokes and games. This function was such a crowning success, that the fraternity decided to make this an annual service. The Cowboys and Indians Party with Theta Chi brought forward a new relationship between two fraternities and in turn strengthened the Greek community. We hope to continue with this line of activity in the future. In November 1964, we celebrated our second anniversary with Open House” as 203 Verne Street. This event was characterized by visits from the administration, faculty and by Mr. Jacobs, our honorary adviser who gave spiritual guidance” to all those concerned. The Spring Hush party of 1965 once more acclaimed popular liking — a boat party on the Gulf of Mexico. More important, Tau Epsilon Phi welcomed into its Portals newr brothers of whom we expect will carry on our traditions and customs. At the close of the 1965 year, we say good luck” but not farewell” to seven TEP graduates who have served their fraternity through times of crisis and success with devotion and servitude. They are as follows: Alan Chico” Epstein, Alan E. Kalsmith, Lee Formato. Jeff Pearl, Marty Steinberg, Richard Riesenberg and Robert Padernacht. 96 Sarxlj Finmin Lroiurd Grodin 97 Joe Schwartx Hdgc Velde Fred Weinberg t Bob Cbcrci Stephen Corrao Ira Gill-mn Tau Kappa Epsilon For the twelth year Epsilon Beta has won the award for the highest scholastic average on campus. The National Inter-fraternity Council also sited Epsilon Beta for this academic accomplishment. Epsilon Beta, with an average of 1.3, also helped our In- ternational Fraternity gain honors. TKE began its full support for school activities by bring- ing its traditional TKE bell to the first football game. But TKE support for athletics didn't stop here. TKE took full part in the intramurals program by giving each member an opportunity to show his diverse capabilities. In the social area TKE hit an all time high by having numerous parties. The season was highlighted by our Hawaiian Luau and an Old Fashion Suray ride that will long be remembered by all. Our leaders on campus arc: Dave Murphy in Student Congress; Bob Cheret and Larry Unger in IFC; Ron Haws is doing a fine job at the Falk Theater, and finally Steve Carroa and John Harriet, who are busy running student union functions. We wish our graduating seniors the best of luck always. They are Tyrone McMurrey, Ron Haws, Gary Seiden, John Harriet, Steve Corrao, Bob Cheret, Jack Somcrstcin, Bill Anderson, and Ira Gilman. The TKES arc proud to have Dr. McFadyen as our new- ly installed Faculty Advisor. Parties, rush, intramurals, house improvements, and scholastic upgrading have added much to the well known quality of the Epsilon Zeta Chapter. With the opening of the fall semester, the brothers moved into their newly redecorated house, and with the work of brothers and pledges, improvements on the property have continued. This past year also showed the brothers taking the lead in the intramural field by taking the football, volleyball, and baitcasting fraternity championships. Theta Chis also were again leaders on campus. George W'atson was Student Body Vico President who organized Homecoming, Ken Bozak acted as Senior Class Vice President, Gary Garbis was president of Circle K. Lou Litus was the Student Congress Attorney General, Bill McManigal, Ed Salerno, Russell Thompson, Gary Garbis, and Bob Terri were members of the first active House of Representatives. Also, George Watson, Ken Bozak. Gary Garbis, and Kevin Hughes were elected to Who’s Who. Some of the successful parties included the rush parties at the beginning of each semester, the first inter-fraternal party, and the annual orphanage Christmas party. Another exciting year was concluded at the annual spring Ring Dance with the crowning of the Theta Chi Dream Girl. Richard Kurnev Carl A. Forcabcrp Frank R. Your successes will be ours. The reputation of an institution is measured by the accomplishments of its graduates, their attitudes toward the business of living and their relationships to their fellow human beings. You graduate at an exciting and troubled period in the world’s history, which offers each of you an unparalleled opportunity to make a great con- tribution to our society. All of us who remain behind believe you will do so. This is also a time when private colleges, such as your alma mater, are fighting for survival. Your degree from the University of Tampa will grow in value as the University secures the resources to increase the (juality of its program. Loyal, interested alumni can do much to assist the University to achieve this goal. I hope that each of you will do your part and will remain in spirit and action a continuing part of the University. My personal con- gratulations and best wishes go with each of you. DAVID M. DELO President 104 Senior Class Officers: Ken Bouk acting I’re . and Beltsy Madxula. See. Almost pulling upsets over nationally prominent Virginia Tech (18-14) and Memphis State (14-0), the Spartans turned everyones’ eyes toward the future as they made the strongest bid to keep football at Tampa U. The first win was the biggest, with a homecoming day romp over Presbyterian when the Spartans rolled to an easy 42-0 win. The next game was a loss at the hands of No. 1 ranked Old Miss (36-0), but Tampa U. came back strong to win their last three games. Strive To Win Desire to do good, the will to win, and a great improve- ment over past seasons, are three ways which are capable of describing Coach Bob Lavoy’s 1965 University of Tampa Spartan basketball squad. Many players from the previous year had graduated and others, such as All-American guard George Shary, who was ready to break all of Tampa U.’s standing records, was ineligible and wasn’t allowed to play but, led by five outstanding first string players, the Spartan cagers learned how to shake off their mistakes, correct them, and improve with every game.
