IN MEMORIAM George B. Howell The entire student body, faculty, and administration was greatly saddened by the death of Mr. George B. Howell on October 17, 1961. Mr. Howell was one of the stronges friends and supporters of the university. He was long a driving force in its athletic program; he organized the university's athletic association as a young banker in Tampa and became its chairman. A member of the Board of Trustees from the time of the uni- versity's founding in 1931 until his death, he was chairman of the board's athletic com- mittee. The university's gymnasium, which he sponsored, and the former Crescent Hall Women's Dormitory bear his name. Mr. Howell was chairman of the board of the Ma- rine Bank and Trust Co., director of the Florida State Chamber of Commerce, the Florida State Fair Association, and the United Fund of Greater Tampa; and was a member of the Florida Council of 100 and the Committee of 100 in Tampa. 17
