Farewell Message The Senior Class University of Tampa Tampa, Florida My hearty congratulations to each of you! May all your dreams come true, and may you often return to this University which has nurtured your mind and your spirit for the past four years. Even as you have dreams for your future, so are wc dreaming for the future of your Alma Mater. All progress is predicated on dreams, plus action. Pasteur dreamed of a disease-free world; Edison, of low cost efficient light for millions; Henry Ford, of an automo- bile within the reach of all; Galileo, of the universe of space. All left their mark because they dreamed with a purpose. The far-sighted men who founded the University of Tampa in 1931 likewise dreamed with a purpose. They dreamed of an institution which would make a college edu- cation available to the young people of Tampa who were financially unable to go away from home for an education. Through the years which have elapsed, the University of Tampa has served more than fourteen thousand persons. It has grown from a handful of students and instructors to a total student body of almost two thousand, and a faculty of seventy - five. But in the meantime, other dreams have replaced those of thirty years ago. These dreams envisage not just a campus of brick and mortar greatly enlarged until it encom- passes the entire area between North Boulevard and the Hillsborough River. They also foresee an institution of outstanding academic prestige, a cultural center for the dynamically growing Tampa community, a place where every citizen desiring higher education may find what he needs whether it be by day or evening. In other words, wc are dreaming of the kind of an institution to which people will point and say, There is a leader in American education.” All these dreams have a place in your future, for the University has a place in your future; just as much of a place as it has in the future of those who will remain here next year, who will enter this coming September, or who continue as members of the faculty and staff. For you are not the same people who entered here four years ago. Even though you may not realize ir, the University has left an indelible impress upon you. Whatever you do in the future will be influenced by the four years you have spent here with us. What you do as an alumni will materially influence what the University can do for those who will come after you. Those of us who remain behind will continue to dream and to work. Just as we look forward to your success — which has a place close to our hearts — so do we expect our dreams to have a place in your future. Together we will make them all come true. David M. Delo, Proiidsnt mt S . . .. . .
