Of. and Mm. Dclo at home. New President has Background in Science Assuming office July 1, 1958, Dr. David M. Dclo became the fifth president of the University of Tampa. Educator, author, and geologist, Dr. Dclo came to Tam- pa from Wagner College, New York, where he had been Presi- dent since 1952. As Chief of the Scientific Man- power Branch of the Army, he instituted the first formal reserve program for scientists and engi- neers, so effective that it was soon extended to other branches of the Armed Forces. Completing his undergraduate work at Miami (Ohio) Universi- ty, 1926, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his M.A. in 1928 from the Univer- sity of Kansas; his doctorate in 1935 from Harvard University. He is the co-author of Years of this Land” (1943) and Scien- tists in Uniform” (1918). He is a fellow of the Geologi- cal Society of America, and a member of Beta Theta Pi, Sigma Xi, the Harvard Club of New York, the University Club of Tampa, and Kiwanis. THE PRESIDENT AND HIS LADY The University of Tampa's First Lady has done much to add to the attractiveness of our building. Mrs. Dclo supervised the decorating of the Ball- room, where many lovely tapestries may be seen; of the Rawlings Room, where many of the original pieces of furniture may be found; and of the lovely Wicker Lounge, located on the first floor of the University, just before the library, decorated with attractive oil paintings and also the proud water- colors and pastels of University of Tampa art students. Truly, our official hostess is doing an excellent job. Mr». D lo—Tha Pr«»idant'« tody President and Mrs. Delo Entertain 1815 Bayshore Boulevard is open to faculty and students alike. At Christmas all were in- vited to Open House at the Delos', where cocoa and cookies were served for refreshment.
