'V-V 0 i i Edit or-in-Chief Ernest E. Garrison Associate Editor Joan Schwab Business Manager Winfield Lamb 1948 MOROCCAN THE YEARBOOK OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA THE ALMA MATER Steadfast and true sing we thy praise, Alma Mater free. Proud beat our hearts and all our days We’ll raise song to thee. We’ll go forth to love and praise thee, and be ever true. Hail our glorious Alma Mater, Hail our Tampa U. s c U3) 5211 .T55' f r FOREWORD When to the sessions of sweet silent thought I summon up remembrance of things past. . . It is the purpose of this volume to serve as a link with the past and an augury of the future for faculty, students, and the alumni of the University. The book will be a bond of memory with the gay, the tragic, the carefree and untroubled hours of our schooling when we were full of courage for high endeavor. The turning of its pages will recall to us the ideals we then had and prompt us to contemplate the degree to which we have attained them. It will also, we hope, renew our faith in those ideals, and in- spire us to realize them more completely. i o Si 4 2 CONTENTS I. Introduction II. Faculty and Administration III. Classes IV. It is my pleasure and privilege once again to congratulate a senior class on having completed a successful career of formal education at the University of Tampa. Wc have all been inspired by your conduct and achievement and by your loyalty to the University. You can bring further honor and glory upon the University by your contribution as citizens to the welfare of our country and to the peace and progress of civilization-at-large. It is our hope that you have been sufficiently inspired, informed, and stimulated in heart and mind at the University to continue your quest for knowledge in all of the challenging years ahead of you. Whenever it is possible, do as much as you can to promote the welfare and progress of the University, for in doing so you will be making a valuable contribution to genera- tions yet to come. I hope each of you will join the Alumni Association. Come back to your Alma Mater as often as you can. We shall always be glad to see you. Our best wishes and blessings go with you. M. C. Instead the Board of Trustees decided to field a well organized team which would represent the school in 1948. The Knights of Columbus arranged a benefit game with the Orlando Army Air Force team, and Coach Paul Straub oblig- ingly called his boys together for two weeks of pre-game prac- tice. The Spartans, almost all of whom will be playing again this fall, got right down to business, and the final whistle found the Army crushed 54-0. Despite the fact that the Spartans re- ceived no publicity for finishing the season undefeated, untied, and unscorcd upon, we hope the Spartans can duplicate this feat during ten games this fall. But it depends a great deal on know how”, for agriculture under its semi- tropical conditions differs, in all branches of horticulture and animal husbandry, from agricultural pursuits in any other part of the nation. Nearly forty years of authoritative and friendly guidance in agricul- tural methods and advancement of this state makes the Florida Grower looked forward to in most progressive farm homes of the state as it is circulated each month. Surveys prove that each copy is read by an average of three farm families. This publication gets wide-awake attention from prosperous Florida farmers in every class of production because they enjoy its features and give attention to its balanced advice. This rare degree of confidence springs from their knowledge that our editors know their problems, speak their language, and are alert constantly to their interests.
