A MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1945 FROM DR. NANCE, PRESIDENT-ELECT A New Chapter Begins “A New Chapter begins in the history of the University of Tampa,” said the author of the gracious editorial, in the Tampa Daily Times, concerning my appointment to the presidency of the University, and equally as friendly and complimentary was the editorial in the T ampa Tribune, which hopefully pre- dicted “the University will grow.” I have read the editorials and other expansive comment on my appointment to this position of honor and responsibility in a proper spirit of humility. I am grateful for the confidence and faith of trustees, faculty and staff, students and fellow citizens. But you and I know very well that the continued growth and success of our University will require greater wisdom and more action than nor- mally can be expected from one man. In a larger measure the future of the Uni- versity of Tampa is in the hearts of you who have received inspiration and direc- tion from professors and fellow students in this fraternity of learning. For you, too. “a new chapter begins.” For your sakes, and for the recovery and advancement of our war-weary world. I hope it will be a thrilling chapter of service to mankind. I trust you will find the greatest personal joy and satis- faction in working for the permanent and universal acceptance of the principles of justice and goodwill for which so many noble men and women in all walks of life have lived and died. As we face the uncertain future, let us pray that the peoples of the world will soon sec the folly of war and learn the profit and wisdom of understanding and mutual helpfulness. It is for such a day of spiritual enlightenment that brave men arc still fighting and dying. For such a day we must live bravely and creatively. Congratulations from T rustees, Faculty. Staff and Administration. Wherever you go—whatever you do—God bless you. ELLWOOD C. NANCE. President.
