I Cote d'Azur these esplanades curved avenues of palm crossed rainbows forming houses on the hill blue terraces and blossoms glowing white this sand all but translucent in the foaming surf green water gently slanting into blue sparkling, iridescent small boat far out and winking, canvas-white that sail winging fast on madcap breezes - stroking bright the sunlight I azure sky with sculling clouds, oar-white , these chaste old churches ' coves g villas sloping on their airy perches rock-rent coasts with anchorages painted white l all this Matisse, Cezanne, Chagall, lJufy, Renoir mm they imaged it on canvas, though the land itself paints jasmine and mimosa voluptuous red roses sunflowers ionquils t, and water lilies, virgin-white, I Owen Lee x l x ' '.
