The Student Council, as the governing body of the Student Association of the University of St. Thomas, acts as the official representative of the Student Body, making its views articulate on matters directly affecting campus student affairs and caring for its best agencies and other campus student organizations. It organizes and directs the extracurricular activities of the student body and petitions the faculty regarding matters of common interest? The governing board is composed of four elected officers, fOur class presidents, representatives from the Athletics Association, Publications De- partment, N.F.C.C.S. and a Social Representative who plans and makes arrangements for the major social events of the school year. For Faculty Ad- visor, the 1957-58 Student Council was indeed fortunate to have Rev. Joseph B. Courtney, C.S.B. This particular Council will be remembered for having revised the Con- stitution 0f the Students Association. The greatest change arising in the method of balloting from the Preferential System to the Simple Majority Vote for the election of officers and members of the Student Council. Clauses concerning the impeachment and suspension of Council officers and members were added as was the stipulation of possessing a Student Activity Card to be eligible to vote in any Student Council elections.
