Style ,88 Students Dress For Success Clothing is an all-persuasive and powerful expression of human imagi- nation and spirit. At Southern you need not look far to find the fashion conscious student. What is most impressive about the fashion scene at Southern is the large array of attire which can be seen on a daily basis. One should never feel inhibited by their attire when entering a college classroom. In class you can expect to find anything from old worn out gym shorts and sneakers that can walk by themselves, to Pierre Cardin slacks and a stifly starched Calvin Klien shirt. ls the statement Clothes can make for breakj a man true? Clothes can make men or women the talk of the town, yet at the same time send their well-dressed souls to the poor house. With the fitness fad of the eighties came better built bodies to carry bet- ter priced clothes. Better priced clothing often means higher-priced clothing. Do you re- member your grandparents talking about the sixteen cent pair of Ro- buckers they ordered in the good ole days? Well today Robuckers run rampant, but are better known as Geaubux and Guess. Although these denim delights are readily available, they have never been sixteen cents and never shall be. The average cheap fashions of the eighties can run from S65 to S105 and still lack something. Stone broke students need not de- spair! There is a secret to looking great that no fashion magazine will ever tell about. The expression lf you look great you'll feel great,'i also works the other way around. lf you feel great, you'll look great. Self confidence says more than a 575 shirt. Jennifer Watts and Trey Joseph wore brightly colored clothes to display a casual aspect of Style'88. WQ.lla.fQ2Q.El'fEf.9S Above: The Denim look was very popular. Ste- fanie Fulton, Kevin Olesen, and Carol Wallace displayed various aspects of this style. Right: Monisa Shackleford and Jeff Hall displayed yet another suitable casual style. is 510- Y

High school juniors and seniors from throughout Mississippi and surround- ing states came to tour the University and attend the football game. The members of Southern Style took small groups around campus and pointed out the major parts of USM's grounds. Each School inside the uni- versity set up a display in the Union lobby. The students were given time to browse throughout these displays and see what USM had to offer. The Army and Air Force also set up dis- plays for those interested in joining the armed forces. Students were given free time to explore the campus. Many chose to lo Campus Life look up old friends from home, while others chose to visit the resident halls so that they could decide where they wanted to live for their college years. Still, others chose to join the college crowd and hung out in front of the Hub. The students were informed about high school weekend in the Spring and also about Mini-Quarter in the summer. Those with decided majors visited the school associated with their choice. This weekend gave USM the chance to shine. The spirits of the campus were up due to homecoming and there were a number of alums around to help spread that Eagle Fe- ver.
