Per- haps the most important of the nineteen books he was writ- ten are Trout Fishing in America and the Tokyo-Montana Express. His popular book The Making of an Ex-Astronaut was award- ed best young adult book of 1970 by the American Library Association and his latest book The Fertile Stars will be published in February 1981. He is a contributing editor to OMNI magazine and is a special consultant to the U.S. House Subcommittee for Energy and the Environment. Q Q ' 7 ! I x Scientist Astronaut program. He is now a leading futurist Boyer Genet1c Eng1neer1ng Dr. Boyer is Professor of Biochemistry and Director of the Graduate Program in Genetics at the University of Califor- nia at San Francisco and Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Boyer and Dr. Stanley Cohen of Stanford University were the first researchers to splice genetic material from one species to another and in Nox em- ber of 1980 they received the first U.S. patent granted in the field of recombinant DNA research. He has set up a private company Genetech to find practical commercial uses for this discovery.
