M 1 The administrative offices of Southern Mississippi provide the expert direction and authority needed to stabilize and successfully operate and institution of magnitude. In its evolution to the high plane of university this past year, USM has shown the result of the careful planning and organization of new aims for each year. Under the ad- ministrations, leadership, the entire year's calendar, academ- ically and socially, is planned. This yearly calendar and its preservation in the mind of all people connected with our school, is the purpose of the yearbook. Work, cooperation, and administrative guidance make each year at University of Southern Mississippi bigger and better. 4 '

1- ' , ., ,1 'TB ,Y - Nur wb S A-ml ,.,a Mississippi Normal College opened its doors in 1912 with 230 young men and women students. In this year, 1962-63 over fifty years of hoping planning, and growing. our University has 5,800 students. This, our school, has progressed through four distinct stages since 1912- Mississippi Normal College, State Teachers College, Mississippi Southern Col- lege, and now University of Southern Mississippi. Each student who comprises part of this total, record enrollment must charge himself to continue to lift the standards and prestige of this institution which has contributed much to its native state and is adding an increasing inliuence on the nation.
