T. 1'Al,MlCR Editor Business Manager Faculty Advisor I9 I outher er One of the first to leave Mississippi Southern in answer to the call of Uncle Sam was Bob Moore, Editor of the 1951 SOUTHERNER. Later a student body election was held, and Mary Tom Williams was elected to the post of Editor. A couple of weeks later Eddy Schmelling, our Business Manager, dropped out of school. Another special election was held and Tommye Morris became the Business Manager. Then the 31st Division of the National Guard was called into service, and Major Gordon Black, our staff photographer, said goodbye. We gath- ered our strength, tackled the job, and work began in Sep- tember with the class portraits and ended in February with the last copy off to Nashville. Thanks go to the staff for much work and timeg to Bob Moore for the lay-out and dummyg to Eddy Schmelling for the art work: to Mr. J. T. Palmer for sticking with us for the third yearg to Gordon Black for the endless trips and picturesz to Bobby Moulder for taking over and finishing the picturesg to Bob Gawthorn for taking over the advertising when we were business managerlessg to Dr. R. C, Gook, the administration, faculty and the student body for their cooperationg to our portrait photographer, Delma Studios, Benson Printing Gom- pany, and Shreveport Engraving Company for being both help- ful and patient with us. We hope the 1951 SOUTHERNER meets with your approval and will serve as a pictoral history of this great school year.
