It includes the departments of anthropology, eco- nomics, education, history, geography, political science, sociology, psychology and international relations. The chairman of the Division, Dr. Paul Guilford, has been at SC ahnost con- tinuously since 1940. He earned his doctorate at Cornell University and had taught at other universities before joining the SC staff. Mem- bers of the faculty of the Division have become well known for the books they have written. In those davs it was known as the College of Liberal Arts and as its scope and functions had expanded somewhat by 1929 the College earned its present name. There are more than 3000 students enrolled in the College ' s 38 departments in addition to the Schools of International Relations, Journalism and Philosophy. The Col- lege provides students with a well-rounded background in the liberal arts as well as an e.vcellent preparation for the I ' niver- sitv ' s more specialized Schools. The College is under the di- rection of Dean Tracy Strevcy. Prior to coming to SC in 1948 Dean Strevev taught history at Northwestern University and at the I ' nivcrsities of Chicago and Wisconsin.
