Inspired preludes . . . Regardless of how ill or fair the winds may be, the real spirit of Carolina as of any University has and will be her faculty. They are the councilmen of an ever-growing township of student-citizens who are constantly striving to grow, enlarge their mental horizons or project a skill and strike a new balance in their chosen field of endeavor. Turning these pages you will see them as they are, some at work, some behind desks, others in classrooms, and others chatting with students. Daily we are privileged to come in contact with many of the nation ' s finest minds who leave with us not just ing impressions of dry facts in courses, but an awakened desire to pursue unknown ends. . . . to searching minds J d tke C nJi T J-iwie • • •

' r oldest separate college library building in the United States. Scanning over the past, and having looked at the present, we are aware of the expansion of the University; the construction of Carolina ' s more modern buildings, such as Sims and Preston Col- leges, two of the most beautiful dormitories in the South, as well as the only school of education in the state, Wardlaw College. With the coming of peace and the veterans, the greatest enrollment in the history of the Uni- versity called for space and more space. This space was temporarily provided with small build- ings A, B, C, D, E, etc., symbols of hope for more sufficient buildings for a greater Carolina. GIBBES GREEN . . . McKISSICK LIBRARY .
