Left of Sloan is LeConte which houses the Chemistry, Biology, and Geology Departments. Partially concealing LeConte and to the rear is the Naval Armory where many a dance is given beneath the bunting and flag-draped ceiling and where its walls have resounded to the commands of N. R. O. T. C. Battalion Commanders. Passing from LeConte College we stroll west towards the end of McKis- sick Library where the old comes back into view. The first on our right is the long gray structure, DeSaussure College, the oldest building on Carolina ' s cam- pus. Here is now the home of the Uni- versity Treasurer ' s office, Dean Derrick ' s headquarters for the School of Business Administration, and the Bridge of our Skipper. Fore and aft are tenaments eleven through fifteen, providing dormi- tory space for Carolina ' s men students. Journeying on we come to the alley- way and through this we catch a glimpse of Maxcy College which shelters Deans ' Row , the Bible Department, and another men ' s dormitory. In its basement is the Canteen, Depository, and Post Office. To the left of Maxcy are Coker, Thornwell, and McBride Col- leges, all of which are combinations of men ' s dormitories and fraternity houses. Crossing over the alleyway we see the McCutchen House, now the home of the Registrar and various classrooms. Next door we are faced with a long WALKWAY . . . snowed under . . . familiar to all law students. SLOAN . . h aven or engineers.

Dividing the old campus from the new is what remains of a former meeting place of between- class dates and politicians. Peeking through the shrubbery to the new campus we see an expanse of Gibbes Green and to our right is the little gray Observatory with its conical-shaped top. Davis College, the beautiful rectangular build- ing to our right as we enter the new campus, is the home of the English and Modern Language De- partments. The Psychology and Philosophy De- partments adjourned this year to a temporary building nearby. Turning to the left and strolling away from the morning sun, we notice in the distance two im- pressive gray buildings. Sloan College, on the right, is the home of the Engineering School and the Math, Physics, and Astronomy Departments. LeCONTE . birds eye view home of the sciences

Looking down the HORSESHOE rare snov massive building of simple architectural construction; here is housed the School of Commerce and the Department of Secretarial Science. Just back of this building is Flinn Hall where the majority of the campus meetings take place and where Mr. Bell holds full sway over the directing of all Y activities inc luding the pool room.
