HOME . . . la u mmm anJL IA. Our campus, the most unchanging part of the University, still deserves the comment made by Historian Charles A. Beard that it is one of the three most beautiful University campuses in America. Whether visiting or living here no one escapes the quiet charm and historic atmosphere as they work, live, and tread beyond its hallowed walls. Upon entering the University grounds, the sym- metrical old campus lies before us. On our right still stands the Lieber home, erected 1836. The large tree standing before it is from a cutting borrowed from the tree over Homer ' s grave. Moving up the time-worn brick walks we come to Pinckney and LeGare Colleges, which are the oldest men ' s dormitories. Here the department of History and the Marshal ' s office reside also. The Political Science department recently moved to a permanent temporary building. Further up the horseshoe , the McKissick-Wauchope house, now occupied by two sororities, stands quietly next on our right. Rutledge College, the FLINN HALL ... the V . Mr. chapel and center of the old campus, moves up to meet us as we continue our stroll . Long since has a compulsory Chapel been abolished and in its stead is a sprightly Music department. Beyond Rutledge we notice ivy-covered Petigru, the home of legal sages and politicians. We notice the Omicron Delta Kappa circle, where Carolina stu- dents swap votes, politic and get the feel for future political battles. DAVIS FROM GREEN STREET opposite page.
