For each of the past three years we have received recognition for Summerfest projects portraying contributions of German immigrants to Wisconsin and the United States. Annually we celebrate the German spring Karneval season with a Fasching party; and we show feature German films by noted German Filmakers. Our acitvities are financed by bake sales and prize money from our Summerfest projects. La Connection Francaise is thriving. The main purpose of the club is to promote interest in French culture and language. All year long, we have been holding bake sales and donating all proceeds to the Statue of Liberty Restoration fund. In October, we went to the Art Institute of Chicago to see a touring exhibit of French paintings called A Day In The Country. For the holiday season, our members brought cheers to a Nursing Home and were much appreciated. We also put up a tree and decorated the halls of the South Building. Second semester activities included a French dinner prepared by the club ' s members, a breakfast at La Petite France, a visit to French landmarks, speaking French during lunch at the French Table, viewing French movies and attending meetings of L ' Alliance Francaise. We work to generate interest in other cultures and thereby to help reduce barriers between countries. We pursue these goals by assisting the school AFS chapter with fundraising, publicity, and recruiting of host families; by organizing visits to our school of foreign students, and by serving as liason between the greater AFS organization and the school community.
