' ee-e mrs- i-- Q - -1. i i he. l l B NGURXQTAQ4 Au -f in ns. : L L ni ht University Athletic Directorate gs QW lllfl athletic season is ended for another year and with its going the l'.A.lD. can feel justly proud to have steered l'niversity ath- l'y7 'Tg' leties through it so successfully. Much ot' this suecess is due to the whole-hearted co-operation among the members of the lliree- :.,l'i2i'g torate and particularly to the managers who in spite of greatly . ' V redueed budgets have direeted their teams through as complete a schedule as usual. lntereollegiate competition was limited to hockey, track and swimming. ln these lllanitolra was not able to compete so that our battles were all with Alberta. Traek repeated its perforinance of last year. The men with one of the best teams ever produced here retained the Cairns' trophy for the third consecutive year. The women, while not so successful. gave a very good performance. Swimming produced our greatest success. both men and women making a elean sweep of the meet held at Edmonton. A similar defeat was admin- istered to the Regina Boat tflub team which journeyed up here last Novem- ber. At present arrangements are being made to send a team to the Dominion t.'hampionship Meet at Winnipeg during April. The hockey displayed by our lluskies against the Alberta team was some of the best seen in the city this winter. Although losing the four game series, they won one game and tied a second to give Alberta a great respect for our prowess on the iee. Varsity playing in the city league was eliminated in a play-off with the Wesleys. liadies' hoekey operated in a city league again this winter and com- pleted the schedule without losing a single game. The rugby team was entered in the provincial league comprised of Regina, Moose -law and Saskatoon. Although giving a very good account of themselves we were unsuccessful in so far as winning the league. Soccer repeated its success of last year winning the city intercollegiate title. 111 men's basketball. our team again won the city championship losing only one game throughout the season. The high-light of the season was a game with the Regina Boat t lub in which Varsity was vanquished lJy'O11G point. Ladies' basketball was limited to the city league in which they were eliminated in the play-offs by the Tech. tlrads. Boxing, wrestling and fencing have greatly increased in popularity due to the impetus given them the past few years. Thanks must be rendered to Professor Gordon who as faculty advisor gave us much timely advice. Vtle wish to make special mention of the great debt we owe to Joe Griffiths who year after year turns out winning track and swimming teams and we also wish to offer our congratulations to Pete Graham and Doug. NVillis who receive the major award this year. To the incoming Directorate we extend our wishes for every success.
