nothing has changed. . the asphalted road, the barbed walls, the flower boxes and the firetree. . . all of them are familiar to me. we enter the forbes gate and i marvel at the magnificence of the newly-constructed education building. no wonder it was designed by no less than architect BILLY PANGANIBAN. there were some improvements within the university but the memory of my high school days still lingers. we proceeded to the third floor where i was supP0Sed to ehF0ll Thy yeuhg lO0y- ah, the place is sweltering with anxious parents with their innocent kids. waiting seems unbearable. my little boy held onto my pants and started asking questions. father, did you study here? yes, my boy. this institution has given rise to many great men and women, i answered. 'iwhat do you mean papa? ay, my boy you're still too young to understand? i decided to buy the latest edition of the daily newspaper to while away the time. it was good to know that our very own former ed-in-chief EDITH ARCEO headed this prestigious paper. she sure is lucky to have for her assistant MAR TOLENTINO. the two indeed belong to the word of leters.. what's this? the president of the phil. mr. NOEL MAGTOTO is planning to make a trip to mainland china for a closer diplomatic relationship. senator VOLTS PABLO seems to disapprove of the president's idea, Wow, this news is something! father STEVE BASILLA is to be installed as the third cardinal of the phil. tomorrow. if only fr. escudero were here, he sure would be happy. turning to the cultural section of the daily, i read that artists EDDIE MELGAR, KN EL KAPULONG and JOJEE SAMALA fweren't these the .same guys who stuck it out with our yearbook?7 are presenting a three-man art show at the hidalgo gallery. well, this seems to be a follow-up of their ,successful show in italy. more tidbits. ALBERT PANCHO, together With RAOUL BUNALES, FIDELITO SANTOS and BOBBY NOVILLA are giving out a concert at the hotel excelsior jointly owned by DAN HERNANDO and ANGEL CRUZ. and what do we have here in the society page? ambassador ALEX BAUTISTA will be hosting a cocktail party in honor of the delegates of the phil. to the u.n. general assembly headed by VAL ALVERO. i was so engrossed reading the dail when my boy inched his way before me. father, the eI1I'O111'1'16l'liJ is about to Sl22lI't. i had to give in to what he said. i secured a prospectus from the lovely secretary miss ELENITA ISLETA to know more about the procedure. familiar names greeted my searching eyes. the school was now headed by a very competent young lady, our former prexy, miss CLARA REYES. in her staff were included names of outstanding alumnae. Fe LENNIE BARREDA who teaches religion classes. VI GUGOL who is Well known for her lively music lessons, SONNY ENDOZO who is now a well-versed speech teacher and BENNY BONAFE who is the flew SD-ahiSh Seiorita. the teaching bus had really caught this group of wonderful people. i went on to have my young boy enrolled. we were about to go to the book rental section when somebody patted my haek- good to See laWye1' JUN PIMENTEL who was now happily married to 3 well-known fashion model. he was also enrolling his SOI1. I1O wonder the happy look on his face. his wife had just delivered a healthy hahy girl- he WaS Sure thankful f01f the wonderful service of drs. RENE REYES and JAY VALENZUELA and 1'111rSeS DOLLY ISIDRO and JAY MEDINA of St. barbara's hospital. then suddenly my boy held onto me and said, papa, the books are limited so we better get moving. i'm sorry my boy. itfs just that i'm too excited. okay, let's go. i had to bid my pal goodbye, but of course not for long. at last we were through. the path for home was long so we started to move along espana st. we were to leave the portals of the university when 1 brushed elbows with the general manager of the phil. insurance co. PAULITO JOSE and his two well-known executives JOEL CRUZ and CESAR JUSAY. i learned that they were on a business talk with the dean of the college of education FERDIE ZAPANTA. espana street had really improved a lot. so, this is the talk of the town... the rosarian building which is called the glory of espana st. f it were not for engineers DENNIS AUSTRIA, NONY MILLARE, DAN RAVAL, VIC PUNSALAN, ED VENEGAS and NES PUNSALAN who had pooled their talents this struc- ture would not had been turned into a concrete reality. and look at this. espaha st. has really become an industrial place. see this chemical plant which i have heard has been producing a new kind of detergent soap. the building that houses the establishment was the creative idea of my old pal architect MAR NABOR ii wonder if he has grown an inch?J. the plant boasts of chemical engineers in the person of ABET ADRE, ANGIE MANABAT, EDAD ALVEAR and LERRY AGUINALDO. no Wonder this product is one of its kind. and what do We have here. it reads.. phil. commercial co... from the transparent windows i could see the general manager ED VILLANUEVA giving out some important points to the company's executive secretary MILA MANGUBAT. this company is on the road to progress. i was so carried away with these things when my boy asked, papa, why are you so happy 1LOday? my son, knowing that my former schoolmates are at their glory gives me a feeling of con- tentment and happiness. someday, you'll feel the same way too. the cold wind blew... i opened my eyes only to find that my wandering, pen had invaded once more the world of imagination and make-believe. i am here, sitting at the fides office, scribbling some lines. but who can say if tomorrow these things will find reality? nobody exceptXSOMEONE up ther . so, i'll be praying earnestly and will be waiting for that much-waited day. 0 dmjimenez
