What began in 1855 as the small, parochial St. Ignatius College in the gold rush town of San Francisco has grown along with the City. It has been a long established cliche to say that USF lias two campuses: the main one on the Hilltop, and the second on the streets of San Francisco. But with the rapid and continuing growth of the University, USF has extended itself beyond the confines of the City, even beyond the United States. There is now a third campus, which may be found at the Portobello Flea Market in London, St. Peter’s in Rome, or a street festival in Germany. USF, in its search for knowledge, has opened itself to both the City and the world. 15
