Self-expression Celebrating our 200th anniversary we think of the ways the people in our country have ex- pressed themselves through the ages. Ben Franklin expressed himself in his experi- ments and his writings; Washington expressed himself as a general and the father of our country; Betsy Ross expressed herself when making our flag; Francis Scott Key did it when he wrote our national anthem. Dolly Madison expressed herself through her cooking, Thomas Paine through his writing, Patrick Henry through his famous speeches, Florence Night- ingale through her nursing. Thomas Jefferson's way of expressing himself was in the writing of the Declaration. Daniel Boone's explorations were his way of self-expression. J.F . Kennedy expressed himself through his presidential power and Gerald Ford is expressing himself as President. All through history people have ex- pressed themselves. We express ourselves in many different ways-- a smile, a frown, a word, a sound, and an ac- tion. We express ourselves by the way we act or feel. If we are unhappy we express ourselves by frowning and or by expressing our unhappi- ness by words and tears. If we are happy we express ourselves in many ways at the same time. We smile, we laugh, we jump, we sing, and we cry when we're happy. The freedom of self-expression is given to each citizen of the United States by our fore- fathers. As students at University High School we are given the right to express ourselves in the way we choose. Some may decide to join a club, some may go out for sports, while others may decide to prove themselves in Aca- demics. We, the staff of Presidio '76, wish to show in this yearbook some of those who EXPRESSED THEMSELVES FREELY THIS YEAR, Nn a Se ee Min Fer iste ad = ie aves is re

El Cid workers keep student body informed The El Cid newspaper staff works through many long and diligent hours to meet a dead- line which is usually every 2 weeks. In these hours many things happen, such as: inter- viewing students and faculty and reporting about current activities. Creating a newspa- per is an expression and reflection of various Uni students. Perhaps in the future some of these students will continue to express themselves in newspaper publishing .
