Class of l94l Richmond College VVell, we finally got hereg and now that we did get this far, we wonder what itis all about. Our four years at college were pretty hectic ones, and quite unlike the history of any class in the past, and we think quite unlike any class history of the future. We started off being scared fresh- men, but it wasn't long before we were a united group under President Dave Roland, and the sophomores had to take the necessary precau- tion of traveling in tvvos. Came the night of the Pajama Parade and SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS. LEFT TO RIGHT: Harold Owens, Treasurer, Ben McGelzee, Senntorg Earl Fox, Presi- cierztg Clmrles Ferneylzouglz, Vice-Presivlerzt. Cflllserzt from the picture is Clmrles llfliller, Secretarjml with typical freshman cockiness we conducted a mass ducking ceremony in Westhampton lake for the minority group of sophomores. Upper- classmen were scarce that night and some of us went swimming of our own volition. And those of us that survived the Rat Rulesn became over- lording sophomores. With Hugh Crisman as president of the class, the freshmen were kept on their toes constantly. Skeptics were shown what the class of '41 had to offer in the field of athletics. Sophomore stars were plentiful in football and the names of jones, Humbert, Fitzhugh, iVlcVay, Rutcher and others were prominently featured in the fall sports news. During Orientation Week of our junior year, just as we were about to settle down to work Cermany was at war with England and France. james Turkington was president of the class, and it was under his guidance that the big social event of the year was a tremendous success: namely, the junior Prom. As seniors, most of us were twenty-one, and to celebrate the occasion our Uncle Sam began his national defense program. While President Earl Fox was busy arranging details for the Sen- ior Rall, he and several of his classmates were answering their Draft questionnaires. incidentally this social function was a pleas- ing progressive step. All the seniors and their dates enjoyed a well-planned banquet at Ewart's Cafeteria before the dance. A tradition was be- gun when the members of the class of i4l pa- raded down the floor in a C-rand March. Our class was different in so far that it continually had to contend with the troubles of the outside world. With graduation upon us, many seniors are looking forward to the early days of july when they will begin a year of compulsory military service in the ever-growing Army of the United States. Those of us who anticipate graduate work are planning hopefully, but with an ever- watchful eye on the local draft commission, which holds the keys to the future.
