FoREWoRD Along with the revitalisation and modernisation of the University in other fields of endeavour, it has been our primary aim in assem- bling this volume of THE VVEB to follow this trend and present to the student body something of a new and different type, in which the University is shown as a uni- fied institution, rather than a loosely-associated group of col- leges, each with a separate book, though bound together in a ges- ture, however empty, toward uni- fication. In doing this, we believe we are presenting as well a vol- ume which will prove more use- ful than ever before, and more dear to the owner as years go by. If we have made it interesting and novel enough to be preserved from abandonment on a high shelf to the unthinlcing gnawing of un- feeling mice, and to be treasured as something precious of college days, our purpose will seem amply fulfilled.
