student senate Serving as the official voice of student opinion, in an increasingly forthright manner the University Student Senate, under the capable direction of Pres- ident Phil Beauchamp, has worked conscientiously and responsibly to enhance mutual understanding with administration and faculty. In addition to a continual and beneficial concern with self-definition and direction, the Student Senate has aimed its energies at such issues of student concern as the operation of the bookstore, a student bill of rights, course evaluation, and more realistic final exam schedules. Although the Senate was unsuccessful in its diligent and realistic support of a proposed student-faculty on-campus bar, the fact of its inquiry into this and other relevant issues, such as student representation on the Faculty Senate, speaks of a growing and responsible concern by the student government to enhance educational and social op- portunities at the University. organizations

association of women students The Association of Women Students, beyond its functions of coordinating women’s activities, and protecting the interests of women students, has, as always, involved itself with a wide range of both campus and cultural affairs. Under President JoAnn Sisco, A.W.S., in addition to sponsoring such activities as the Winter Weekend Queen Contest and MERC Week, has realized its ambition of establish- ing a women’s self-regulatory hours system. Once again, A.W.S. has shown itself to be an excep- tionally active and dynamic force within the student government of the University. president: jo ann sisco vice president: Patricia damall recording secretary: leslie blackburn corresponding secretary: susan miller treasurer: margaret laurence organizations
