6WPI5'T 145' PARTY Ever see Santa come through the chimney? At .l?ortland's Christmas Party for orphans, Santa Al Richardson not only came through, but he did it in a Crosley sound truck. The famous eight tiny reindeer gave way to four tiny heels which rolled into Eueation Hall carrying Aland a load of presents. Some of the braver children pressed their noses against the windows of the small truck to make sure that it actually was Santa Claus behind the wheel. Two days before the Orphans' Christmas party, the student body threw a party of their own, complete with carols and all the holiday trimmings. You ore my sunshine . . . FRDNT A 05 The Portland Players opened their 1949-1950 season with the presentation of The Front Page, a production which called for the largest cast used in any play shown on a Portland stage. Twenty actors trod the boards in the Hetch- McAi'thur satire on newspapermen and politi- cians. Blue pencilling for campus presentation cost the famed play some of its vitality, but what the players lacked in punch lines they made up in general excellence. Outstanding were Dick Fair in the role of reporter Hildy Johnson, and Larry Johnson as editor Walter Burns. johnson appeared in the final performance despite a broken ankle, re- phrasing his lines to suit the injury.
