The new president set high stand- ards of enterprise and achievement in his first year as head of the Uni- versity. He used well his seven years ' experience as dean of studies to guide the school through the most success- ful year of its history. By a wise dis- position of available space on the campus, by acquiring new buildings and new equipment, by an unceasing thoughtfulness and constant concern for the welfare of the returning vet- eran, he merited and won the praise of faculty and student body alike. i , ' i Hl Rev. Francis P. Goodall, C.S.C. Oui ' new vice-president came to us in September witli a wealth of ex- perience as a highly-trained graduate of the mission fields of India, and as a public relations man for the Uni- versity of Notre Dame. He impressed the entire student body from the first with his insoiring sermons during the Retreat at the beginning of the school year. Rev. John J. Hooyboer, C.S.C. The untiring zeal of our new dean of studies was taxed to the limit this year with his new duties of handling the largest student body in the history of the .school . . . 1,729 students. SEV. Although spring practice was held last year, only a few of the season ' s varsity were present and the remainder didn ' t arrive on the campus until fall.
