In addition to a full schedule of classes, the married student has to fill a dual role of husband or wife and, sometimes, parent. Entertaining at home and spending many nights alone replace fraternity parties and dances. The responsibilities facing the married student bring rapid maturity and leads to a greater appreciation of the value of his education. 25

Just before dark on fall Friday evenings the quiet, colonnaded walks of Schen-ley Quadrangle begin to fill with a noisy crowd. Cheers and chants resound through the stone archways as students clap to the rhythm of “Hail to Pitt” and shout hoarsely in unison with the cajoling cheerleaders. 27
