Eleanor Roosevelt, former First Lady, started the parade. Mrs. Roosevelt spoke to a primarily student audience in the Carnegie Lecture Hall. Following in the footsteps of the gracious Mrs. Roosevelt were ex-Presidcnt Harry S. Truman, complete with his repertoire of “give ’em hell” speeches. Vice President and Mrs. Richard Nixon, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Adlai Stevenson, the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for president.
