Z -Nix'-Xx,XX' FOREWORD ff' it February 28, 1787, the legis- 'I lature of the State of Pennsyl- VE' vania granted a charter for the 'L ,, establishment in tht town of Pittsburgh of an Academy for the educa- tion of youth in useful arts, sciences and literature . The Academy has changed names twice, has survived two fires, and will soon be in its sixth location. To pic- ture a little of the hardy spirit that was present at the founding of the Pittsburgh Academy, that has guided us for the ensu- ing one hundred forty-one years, and that now is portrayed in the Cathedral of Learning, has been the goal of the 1929 OWL staff.
