Ms ' h One of the first structures to see Q-Liu completion in these last few years ffl was Bennett Hall which houses the School of Education. Situated on the corner of 34th and Walnut streets, it holds forth as a challenge to those who seek higher education. ln the spring of 1925 the Ath- Houston Hall letic Association set out on one of the bigger undertakings, namely, the double- decking of the Franklin Field stands With the growing of the undergraduate body, with the increasing numbers of alumni, and with fthe boosted interest taken in Pennsylvania's football games, it was felt that greater accommodations should be provided. Accordingly, the seating capacity of the stadium was enhanced, raising the figure from fifty-five to eighty-Hve thousand. . The early spring of the following year saw the ground broken in Big Quad in preparation for the erection of two new Freshman dormitories, and when the fall session of school opened, six months later, many of the newcomers started their University careers in these new quarters, Ashhurst and Magee. This addition of two buildings was just another step in the manyfold plan of enlarging the dormi- tory system. I The most recent improvement in the campus building plan was brought to the front last New Yearfs Day when, with Pennsylvania's victory over Yale in her first 5 League game of the season, the new Palestra was formally opened. This spacious structure, with its ten-thousand capacity, will more adequately and more nobly serve the Alma Mater in the years to come, than could its predecessor, Weightman Hall, which, being much smaller, was somewhat handicapped in its efforts. The accommodations afforded by the new Palestra will, however, provide for more than a mere basketball floor and stands for on- lookers. The other half of the building, when actually completed, will include one of the best equipped gymnasiums of its kind in this .7212 section of the country and two swimming- l 2 Provost Tower lifj lf? f f T .QI 20 Ip.. 1 I I Q it lg ., if , 5 rg l ill fri lr? , . if .ip 1,53 s' e L is 1' i X t 3 vu 1 lj i F i r ft? t . .WL F 2 f ,Q ..:3T,g ,li ff ,deff -fr.

V i Although it can scarcely be said that Logan Hall has been neglected in the building plans Qfor the days were few in the last four years when scaffolding was not touch- 1514 ing some wall of the old Wharton Schoolb, still the com- bining of Logan Hall with Hare Laboratory, which was A completed in the early fall of 1926, was perhaps the most ,L notable improvement. In this connection, perhaps, V 'W mention might be given to the new Alumni Hall, de- E l scribed by Dean Johnson as the fulhlment of a long- Lil cherished dream. Located in 210 Logan Hall, it will be A' lil a convenient place for such events as informal receptions, y , faculty teas, Alumni Society and Beta Gamma Sigma , f, , , same of Edgar Fabs smith - my '1,..,, meetings and the like. About the end of the year 1926, or the beginning of 1927, the University pro- foil? P. vided a new home for the Moore School of Electrical Engineering. The previous summer, title had been obtained to the building which stands at the southwest corner of 33d and Walnut streets. This structure was then completely remodeled 'A and is now said to be one of the best equipped schools of its kind in America. ' Since its creation, in 1923, the Moore School of Electrical Engineering had, prior l to December, 1926, been housed in the Engineering Building. if, So much for what has been completed in the last four years. But there still exist several important evidences of present progress in the form of the new Audi- torium which is being erected on the corner of 34th and Spruce streets and the gy new Christian Association building, the site for which is at 36th and Locust streets. if-l The former will see completion some time during the 1927-1928 school session, or at least will be far enough along to give the Class of 1928. the honor of being the first to be graduated from within its walls. The latter, .jf commonly known as Memorial iflfj, Hall, or The Heart of the Cam- pus, -is expected to be ready for lm., use about the same time, although fly! as yet work has barely got under way on it. Even beyond this concrete pres- ent-day progress, however, lie Thirty-fourth and Woodland many and intricate plans for the riff? X --al 22 If:-A
