When a multitude ot techniques are interiected into a class attended by inexperienced students, only contusion and mis- interpretation can result. Atter the completion ot basic education and a teeling ot surety has been acquired it is to be encouraged that advance instruction be sought in subjects ot particular interest to the dentist. Several types ot postgraduate instruction are available: l. An extended course lone or more yearsl in a specialized branch ot dentistry which will satisty qualitication tor a Specialty Board or will lead to an advanced academic degree. A 2. A course extending over a tew weelrs which will provide experience in one or several departments ot special interest. 3. Short retresher-type courses ot several days duration which consist ot intensive training in one tield or endeavor. l prosthetic dentistry lt is the purpose ot dental prosthesis to provide the means tor the restoration ot normal physiological tunctions and to re-establish the appearance ot those areas ot the tace which the loss ot teeth has attected. ln order to tultill in the highest degree the requirements ot prosthetics, one should be an anatomist, a sculptor, an artist and an artisan. The knowledge, slcill, and handicratt necessary to carry out these requirements comes with close, long continued, and patient application. The student progresses trom technique pieces designed to acquaint him with the advantages and limitations ot basic dental materials to the ultimate construction ot dentures in clinical practice. ln content and arrangement, the course in Prosthetic Dentistry has loeen planned to stress the tundamentals underlying all procedures.
