Ruth and Eileen lament, Why, oh, why did we ever leave Ohio, when they realize how calm home was compared to the frantic pace of Greenwich Village. Ruth Sherwood, jean Sode, and her big romance, Bob Baker, play- ed by Jim Fleet. Ruth and her sister, Eileen, come to New York to make their fortunes. Ruth is a budding author and Eileen hopes to break into the theater: Activities reenvvich Village Wonderful Town, a two-act musical-comedy by Joseph Fields and Jerome Chodorov, was pre- sented March 12-I5 in the Little Theater. The story is set largely in Greenwich Village, home of artists, writers, dancers, and actors. Ruth and Eileen Sherwood arrive from Ohio to make their fortune in the city and take an apartment in the village. From this time on, the girls move from one dilemma to another. At the close of the play, both girls have won jobs and Ruth gets her man. In their richness and variety, the lyrics and music of Wonderful Town are most engaging and satisfying. In addition to special material and some lovely and deceptively simple ballads, there are a mock-hillbilly song, an- Irish ballad, and some swing tunes. is Setting for Musical Fred Koontz, speech department head, was di- rector of the production. Bill Hadley was the stud- ent director. The principal roles were played by Jean Sode, Ruth Sherwood, Marian Riddell, Eileen Sherwood: and Jim Fleet, Bob Baker.
