We seldom do speak For we are discreet. But now we make bold Our tale to unfold. Hark back in your mind And there you will find That day in September Which all do remember. From far and from near The youth did appear s Some boys in their 'teens, Many merry colleens - All eager and tense The Work to commence. Some several Weeks later, Each young gladiator Schoolward did hie His prowess to try. With method and logic And lore pedagogic. He entered the fray That red-letter day. 'Tis for him to declare lust how he did fare. Came Christmas-time tests 'Mid sighs and wry jests: With much more elation And anticipation, With hubbub and noise, cello All the girls and the boys Sought the night of the party When fun Was so hearty. Such a festival bright Was a soul-Warming sight! The months that ensued Saw studies renewed: With parental obsession We Watched the progression Of trials withstood, And felt life was good. On occasion bereft Of students who left In the country to teach, We made shift with the breach. And now at year's end When signs do portend The examinations And recommendations, We wish you Godspeed Though we're saddened indeed To see you depart Who are close to our heart, For we are the Walls Of the Normal School halls. They have come from every corner of Ontario to achieve a common ambition, a common goal - teach- ing. GNOTHER school year is drawing to a North, South, East, West - there is some- one from every point of the compass, with his little bundle of joys, sorrows, traditions, likes, and dislikes. Each has something to give and to receive, so that our school can be said to be provincial in the literal sense of the Word. The Northern Winter Wonderland sends students from such representative spots as North Bay, Sturaeon Falls, Kirkland Lake, Sudbury, Hearst, Blind River, and Timmins. The East is especially well represented by future teachers from Cornwall, St. Eugene, Embrun, Moose Creek, Alexandria, and Plan- tagenet. Western Lafontaine is proud of its sizable deputation. A surprisingly large number of pupils carry the banner of the Southern peninsula. They are from Windsor, Tecumseh, Belle-Riviere, LaSalle, McGregor, Paincourt, St. Ioachim, Stoney Point, River- side, and Sandwich East. What a great privilege is ours! The heterogeneous character of the student body attending this training school is something unique. It is no exaggeration to say that a year spent in association with persons from diversified groups is an education in itself. This, coupled with the training programme which must, of necessity, make provision for the various sections of the province, tends to broaden one's outlook and sympathies and to lay a sound basis for greater national consci- ousness. Let it be our resolve to translate into action the ideals and patterns of conduct which have resulted from having met the company . CLAIRE FERLAND. 42-
