Coughlm bailed' What is a student nurse? She comes in all sizes, shapes, uniforms, and caps. A student nurse is courage under a cap, ambition in a crisp uniform, energy in person. She's a dedicated heart, a cheerful smile, a comforting voice. The capping ceremony starts her on her journey and one day she can say, l'm a nurse! Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. CMP DY This year Campus Day occured on February 21, 1970. Freshman prenursing students from the campuses of the Oregon System of Higher Educa- tion were on this campus for orientation and tours of the facilities. The program began at 10 a. m. in the Student Activities Building. Miss Boyle addressed the stu- dents in the morning. The tours began at 11:30 p. m. and continued until 1 :30 p. m. Each class participated by presenting a demonstration of var- ious clinical experiences they had undergone. The students then proceeded to the Women's Res- idence Hall to tour and ended the day talking with student nurses informally. The faces of these visiting students are intent as they study one of the items on display. 0 Rush! Q 2? Rosie McCornack helps register the visiting prenursing students. CAMPUS CR ADE FOR CHRI T Campus Crusade for Christ is an international, non-denominational organ- ization, whose purpose is to in11oduce college students to the person of jesus Christ as the solution to their search for meaning, purpose and peace in life. Crusade is active on hundreds of campuses in the United States and around the world. It sponsors state-wide conferences each term, attended by several of our students, and regional conferences during Christmas break. The faces of Shari Free, Carol Coates, Sharon Robinson, and Linda Nord show their intent upon the subject as they meet for an Action Group. The basis of Cru- sade on our campus is found in these Ac- tion Groups composed of four to eight girls who meet weekly to examine the claims of Christ and discuss I-Iis relevancy in their lives. They also discuss ways to share with others what they have found in Christ. OR The junior class always seemed to have activities going and preparations for further events. Spring quarter was high lighted with a picnic at Blue Lake Park. Coming back in the fall the sophomores were introduced to their big sisters at a get together at the Womens Residence Hall. While names were connected with the faces, donuts and punch were devoured in large quantities. In October the juniors also sponsored a capping party three days prior to the formal capping ceremony. Here both big and little sister tackled the job of folding the caps, Several activities were carried out to raise money for the main event of the year, the junior Senior Banquet. These activities included a snow raffle fguessing the date of the first snow fallj which was won by Susan Albin, a spaghetti dinner and a hamburger feed. Planning these things were always a challenge since the junior class is split into thirds and rarely sees the other two thirds. Obstacles were overcome and class unity and enthusiasm was maintained. A year may seem like a longtime but it's not, especially when you have hundreds of pictures to take, thousands of words to write about those pictures, put them on pages, deadlines to face and you don't really know how to go about it. What happens? You try your best. When complications arise, you keep trying. Then one day the book is complete and ready for others. That's what we did. We knew we wanted a book and that was about it. It was work to figure out which end was up when but it was fun. Many laughs arose from our work parties and not so many tears. It is now that I would like to thank the people who helped make this whole thing possible with their distinct contributions. I would like to thank the sponsors, advertisers and purchasers of the book who made us financially independ- ent and able to print this book. l would like to thank Bob Paffrath, American Yearbook Representative, for his insight and putting up with our blunders. I would like to thank Fifth Avenue Portraits who so patiently allowed for the last stragglers to get their pic- tures taken and kept up their fine quality. I would like to thank Bud Dockery for letting us use the Student Activities Building. I-Iis humor and not get- ting too upset with our long phone calls and late hours were appreciated and kept us going. I would like to thank Martha I-Iirsh and the Nursing School office for their cooperation in typing lists and memo's at a moments notice. I would like to thank Mary Ann Lockwood in Public Relations for her ability to help us with details and picking up many fine points. And yes, I would like to thank Miss Boyle and the administration who are ultimately responsible for the book under contract. Although our communication was strained at times, our differences were ironed out with compromise. I would like to thank our advisors Barbara Rynerson, Marie Duncan, and Letha Lierman for their continous efforts to establish a workable liason with the students, faculty and administration and so often pointing out areas unknown or even conceivable to my awareness. ' I would like to thank Tom Bessler and his Photography department for their effort, support and willingness to help us overcome a major problem of having pictures retaken. Not enough appreciation and thanks can be expressed to Tom for his flexibility in cooperating with our problem and so often going out of his way. Thank you staff. I can not believe the book is almost complete. You worked hard, were dependable and showed initiative and creativity. The sacrifices you made were incredible, especially on Friday nights and weekends! You kept with the ship when it really rocked, was near gone and were able to help bring it to shore to where it is now landing. You made the book, each with your own grand quality. I think we all grew during this process and can be proud at this time to present TI-IE LAMP 1970. XXX This book is now ready for you. It has meaning to us, we hope it does for you, too. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue 66 loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. is You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees BL the starsgyou have a right to be here. And whether.or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is un- folding as it should. is Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors GL aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. is With all its sham, drudgery SL broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. is is FOUND IN OLD SAINT PAUL'S CHURCHJALTIMORE, DATED 1692 ! . fi 'B 3 t 9 in R E 11 1 Tk B. rf! W R- E!
