Sixty-sevenyears ago near the present site of Yillard Hall stood the log cabin of Hi-lyard Shaw, agent of the Hudsons' Bay Co. The act of Congress, February 14, 1859, admitting Oregon. to the Union, provided for a State University by the grant of 72 sections of land. The bill creating the University of Oregon passed the legislature in October, 1872. Since then a liberal educational policy has made possible the building of a great State University. The Oregana artist expresses in line etching some of the beauty of our buildings. V .
