18 - MEDIEVAL FAIR Kings and Queens and Puppeteers But if games, plays and music aren't enough for the fairgoers, knights armed with wooden broadswords joust with genuine Middle Ages spirit in the oval's sunken gar- den - the Passion Pit, while villagers look on. Veiled and painted belly dancers, undulating before some of the other people of the village, give the fair another aspect of medieval life - floor shows. Campus and community artisans display their wares in booths set up in the northern part of the hamlet, the North Gval. Pottery, leather, and woven goods, jewelry and dolls are offered by the medieval villagers. Other booths offer medieval delicacies such as homemade sau- sages, pastries and breads, tempting fairgoers with their mouthwatering smells drifting through the hamlet. Fair damsels and brave knights of all ages have been enjoying the Medieval Fair at OU for the last three years. In this case, the old proverb saying that all good things have come to an end might be wrong. At least at OU the best part of the Middle Ages has not ended after almost 1500 years.
