Delta Upsilon A simple idea blossomed into a joint pro-iect,with the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority to highlight the Delta Upsilon activities for the fall semester. The entire project centered around a two day marathon run to Dallas in which a football was carried by runners from Norman to Dallas for the annual Texas-OU rivalry. The run received much publicity from newspapers and radio stations and it also received the support of Governor David Hall. Dr. Paul Sharp and Wade Walker, all of whom helped to make the project a little more successful. Other activities for the fall semester included the initiation of the Spring Pledge Class, the Fifties party, the Big Brother-Little Brother party, the fall semester retreat, and the film festival (where from three to six hours are spent watching old comedy flicks.) The annual Feudal Dinner, a formal dinner and dance in December ended the 1972 year. The highlight of the spring semester was Spring Weekend, the annual two day party which included a camelot theme costume party and Delta Upsilon's own Hairy Buffalo beverage. Each year a senior member is elected to reign over the festivities as King Arthur. Other spring activities included initiation of the fall pledge class, participation in University Sing, a Province Ten Convention, a delegation to the Model United Nations and a spring retreat. Delta Upsilon also liked to compete in intramural sports, entering football, volleyball, ping-pong and handball teams into competition. DU prided itself on being an active and progressive chapter and looked forward to the new opportunities that the next year would offer. Kappa Alpha The first fraternity in Oklahoma. Beta Eta of Kappa Alpha Order was chartered November 17. 1905. The national organization was founded in 1865 at Washington College, now Washington and Lee University, in Lexington, Va.. at the same time when Gen. Robert E. Lee was president of that institution. Because of his high moral character. General Lee has become the spiritual founder of the Order. This year, the OU chapter began a new pledge education program based on the recommendations from the national office. The program — the result of much planning and work by a team of professional psychologists, and national and chapter officers — strives to place the pledge in an atmosphere in which he can learn more about himself and his brothers while he adjusts to college life. Every opportunity is given him to participate in chapter and college activities. He is encouraged to develop his own talents and is reminded to be sensitive and responsive to others. The Order sponsored the Christian Appalachian Project — a philanthropic program to help the people in the eastern part of the United States to help themselves. Beta Eta was one of the top 10 chapter con-tributers to the program last year and was recognized at the National Convention in Nashville. Tenn.. last August. The chapter had an active social program. Annual parties were the Victory Party. Noah's Ark Party. Casino Party. Western Party and the Old South Weekend which included the Dixie Dance and the Plantation Ball. Much attention was also given to the OU Model United Nations. University Sing and Campus Chest activities. Group p tur : 1 — Chin Hoppe. 2 — Cnuck Bacon. 3 — Mark Robinson. 4 — Jell Briley.
