Delta Upsilon A simple idea blossomed into a joint pro-iect,with the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority to highlight the Delta Upsilon activities for the fall semester. The entire project centered around a two day marathon run to Dallas in which a football was carried by runners from Norman to Dallas for the annual Texas-OU rivalry. The run received much publicity from newspapers and radio stations and it also received the support of Governor David Hall. Dr. Paul Sharp and Wade Walker, all of whom helped to make the project a little more successful. Other activities for the fall semester included the initiation of the Spring Pledge Class, the Fifties party, the Big Brother-Little Brother party, the fall semester retreat, and the film festival (where from three to six hours are spent watching old comedy flicks.) The annual Feudal Dinner, a formal dinner and dance in December ended the 1972 year. The highlight of the spring semester was Spring Weekend, the annual two day party which included a camelot theme costume party and Delta Upsilon's own Hairy Buffalo beverage. Each year a senior member is elected to reign over the festivities as King Arthur. Other spring activities included initiation of the fall pledge class, participation in University Sing, a Province Ten Convention, a delegation to the Model United Nations and a spring retreat. Delta Upsilon also liked to compete in intramural sports, entering football, volleyball, ping-pong and handball teams into competition. DU prided itself on being an active and progressive chapter and looked forward to the new opportunities that the next year would offer.
