Alpha Sigma Phi The 1972-73 year was a red letter year not only because it marked Alpha Sig’s 50th anniversary on the OU campus, but more importantly. because the old chapter house was closed. Plans were made for a new concept in fraternity living on the campus. Undergraduate members lived at Yorkshire House during the year but continued to offer a full range of services and activities, while alumni architects drew plans for a new Alpha Sig chapter house. In the sports arena. Alpha Sigs intramural teams did better than ever before while the chapter also held its traditional social activities. The little sister organization was started again, an effective senior council was organized. and further refinements were made for a progressive pledge program for the fraternity The Mad Hatters Ball. Talisman Rose Formal. and the Bayou Bounce highlighted the chapter’s social calendar. Because of the importance of this year in the history of the fraternity. Founders Day was a special event for the entire brotherhood. The year brought forth a new era for Alpha Sigma Phi at Oklahoma with a promise of a bright and progressive future. Alpha Tau Omega After completing a successful summer rush in which they pledged 46 men. the ATO's enjoyed another year of distinctive variety. Particular emphasis was placed on the Tau social life this year with more and larger parties. The fall opened with two parties for the pledges — the Victory Party and the Great Pumpkin Party. The ATO formal ball and the Playboy Party were a tremendous success. The Bowery Ball (OU's second oldest traditional party) and the Barroom Brawl ushered in spring rush. The diversity and quality of the ATO's were displayed in their excellence in other aspects of college life. Several of the men were very active in campus activities and politics as the Tau's held the Interfraternity Council presi- dency. Student Activities presidency, and many other important positions on campus. The ATO pledges once again participated in the annual National Help Week instigated by ATO. The pledges performed services for the city of Norman and the University Community. The ATO honorary organization, the Little Sisters of the Maltese Cross, continued in its service to the house in many areas. They served as hostesses on football game days, helped with alumni relations and other house activities.
