Believing in the prophecy of Sequoyah and the legend of the early Indians, in spirit if not in words, they aspired with their deathless visions to build on the flat prairie, where buffalo grazed and wallowed, wandering up from the shifting sands of the Canadian bottoms, a great center of culture. The faith of these visionaries in education has been justified. The familiar figures of two of these pioneers in educa- tion are seen daily on the campus. Respected for their achievements and ability they are the rightful heirs of their hearty predecessors, and to them, Dean Roy Git- tinger and Doctor Edward Everett Dale, is dedicated this volume, the 192+ SOONER. The sun sends a million spark- ling rays from the dew-laden campus, changing it fromififa tract of green verdure to a gar- den of jewels. On the north towers of the administration building the deep 'green of ivy reaches almost to the top, ad- ding to its impressive gran- deur and softening the Gothic scrolls like the brush of a mas- ter artist. fLEmhodied in this volume is a storyg heroism, de- termination,tragedy, and follyg all are represented and far in the future when the students of '24 turn these musty leaves perhaps a tear or a wistful smile will salute the mem- ory of Soonerland that is awak- ened in this chapter of the never ending history of the Universi- ty of Okla- homa.
