Cross announced in 1966 his plans to retire as President of OU on June 30, 1968, the OU Board of Regents began searching for a successor. On May 22, 1967, the Regents announced Dr. J. Herbert l-lollomon as their choice for the presidency. During the 1967-68 academic year, the Re- gents authorized several changes in housing regulations. All women meeting age and scho- lastic requirements were given self-limiting hours, and a rule was made that all unmarried undergraduate students under 24 years must live in university housing. New degree programs initiated by the re- gents were a Master of Liberal Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. Serving as president of the board was Tulsa attorney James G. Davidson. Vice-president was Quintin Little, Ardmore. Calvert, Mrs. Frank Davies jr., Houston Huffman, Emil Kraettli K. Sparks, Dr. George L. Cross, Dr. J. The increase boosted resident enrolment fees from S9 a semester hour to S12 and non-resident fee and tuition costs from S323 to 330. Avoiding duplication in academic programs and coordinating higher education were two of their purposes. Chairman of the Regents was Donald S. Kennedy of Oklahoma City. Also serving were Clyde A. Wheeler, Tulsa, vice-chairman, I-larry P. Conroy, Duncan, secretary, and Ex- all English, Lawton, assistant secretary. Other Regents were R. L. Crowder Jr., Tonkawa, Mrs. S. E. Ditmars, Muskogee , C. Dr. Cross Retires as President This is a year of important changes at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. George Lynn Cross, who has guided the destiny of the Uni- versity for a quarter of a century, will retire from the presidency on june 30, 1968. On the following day he will be succeeded by Dr. J. Herbert I-lollomon, whose official inaugura- tion is scheduled October 18, 1968. Although he is leaving the Presidents Of- fice, Dr. Cross will continue to serve on the OU faculty, which he joined in 1934 as an assistant professor of botany. I-le will teach a course in botany and write a history of the past 25 years of the University. No one is better qualified than President Cross to tell the story of the University during that exciting period, when it grew to be one of the country's major educational institutions. President-Designate, Dr. J. Herbert Hollomon, has spent a year in seeking his plan for the future of the University of Oklahoma. After 25 years as OU President, Dr. George I.. Cross retires in June, 1968 to teach botany and Write a history of the university. An important part of that history is the devel- opmentgof the Medical Center under his lead- ership. Dr. Hollomon, who shares Dr Cross' strong interest in the future of the Medical Center, began his duties as president-designate Septem- ber 1, 1967. I-le came to OU from Washing- ton, D.C., where he was assistant secretary of commerce for science and technology and act- ing undersecretary of commerce. Under Dr. I-lollornon's guidance, more than 500 persons have been working for several months on a plan for the future of the Uni- versity, which will be published at the time of his inauguration.
